“There is freedom waiting for you,
On the breezes of the sky,
And you ask 'What if I fall?'
Oh but my darling,
What if you fly?”

 Erin Hanson

Taking risks can be terrifying. But whether you fail* or succeed... it is beautiful and I love the reminder of what could be. I will never know if I do not try. And when I say "try" I mean "do."

*failures are nothing more than trials. You always learn something, even if it was simply, "Well, that didn't work. What's next?"

"Fear is excitement without breath."

Robert Heller

I frequently interchange the words "EXCITED" and "NERVOUS" because 95% of the time they feel the same within me. Am I alone on this one?

I was introduced to this quote in the book "The Big Leap" by Gay Hendricks. I absolutely love it. Hendricks teaches that if you breathe into the fear it can develop into excitement, where if you hold it in, the fear builds which reminds me of another quote...

"What you resist persists."

Carl Jung

This is one that I believe many of us (myself included) have a difficult time learning from our mistakes on. Trying to hold our breath through fear waiting for it to go away, but all we are doing it making it grow to overwhelming proportions. What a waste... that sucker can be shifted to excitement with some oxygen. And I much prefer EXCITEMENT to fear.

Talk to me:

Comment below about a time you took a leap and you flew? Or maybe you crashed and had to reassess?

Tell me about what you do with your fear? Do you hold it in? Ignore it? Turn it into something else? If you don't know, notice the next time those feelings creep in.
